C Spire Wireless Academic All-Star Presented To Munford Student

Munford, Tenn. (November 26, 2012) – Jason DeWitt, a senior at Munford High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.

DeWitt is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for social sciences and history. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Dewitt and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.

DeWitt is a history buff and enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. He holds a 3.91 grade point average and scored 33 on the ACT with a perfect 36 on the reading portion of the test. DeWitt was selected for the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities where he earned six hours of college credit. He also completed Dual Enrollment U.S. History and is a leader on the school’s Knowledge Bowl Team, which recently placed second overall.

In addition, DeWitt is president of the National Spanish Honor Society and successfully competed in the Spanish Feria sponsored by Dyersburg State Community College, earning first, second and third places. Through Boy Scouts, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and membership in the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout honor society. DeWitt has achieved the role of Civil Air Patrol Staff Sergeant and has served as a People to People Ambassador.

DeWitt is a member of the National Honor Society and Roots and Shoots, the environmental club. He volunteers with Munford Clean-Up Day and Atoka Safe Night Out.

The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.

Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
